How to Adopt a Penguin

Visiting the Penguin Parade at Phillip Island was our first time seeing penguins in the wild (read more about our visit here). Our hearts melted as soon as we saw the first Little Penguins waddle ashore.

With our home being over ten thousand miles away in the United States, it would likely be the first and last time we saw them but that didn’t mean we’d have to lose touch. We could be Penguin Pals!

To celebrate our four-year wedding anniversary we adopted a Penguin Pal, which we aptly named Beaks, after our own vagabond penguin. For $50 AUD plus $10 AUD shipping to the USA (~$45 USD total) we will receive the following:

  • A thank you letter
  • An adoption certificate
  • A penguin toy in knitted jumper
  • A regular newsletter updating you on the progress of the penguin colony and Penguin Foundation projects
  • A little penguin fact sheet
  • A free Penguin Parade entry voucher for one child or adult
  • An exclusive invitation to our Penguin Pals Open Day where Penguin Pals (and parents) can take a special behind-the-scenes tour of the world famous Penguin Parade and meet their park rangers and marine biologists.

Donations to the Phillip Island Penguin Foundation fund research, conservation, and rehabilitation and are vital to keeping this colony of 32,000 thriving.

All donations are welcome and tax deductible if over $2. In addition to Penguin Pal, there are many donation options.

For $25 AUD (~$19 USD) you will get an annual Membership which includes regular updates on the colony and how your support is making a difference.

You can also Adopt a Penguin or Gift an Adoption for $75 AUD (~$56 USD). Along with naming your penguin you will receive this package of goodies in the mail.

  • Automatic membership to the Penguin Foundation
  • A thank you letter from the Penguin Foundation
  • An adoption certificate
  • One thank you card with a penguin photo
  • A regular newsletter updating you on the progress of the penguin colony and Penguin Foundation projects
  • A little penguin fact sheet
  • A free Penguin Parade entry voucher for an adult or child
  • An exclusive invitation to our Penguin Foundation Members Open Day where you and a guest can take a special behind-the-scenes tour of the world famous Penguin Parade and meet their park rangers and marine biologists.

The Penguin Foundation also offers school and corporate sponsorship levels which come with their own benefits.

If you are planning a trip to Phillip Island you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the free admission tickets some of these memberships offers. Near or far, it feels great to support the colony and I am looking forward to our first newsletter.

If you or someone you know loves penguins like us, consider making a donation of your own to give them a memorable gift and provide support for the Penguin Foundation.
